REGULATIONS FOR THE CARRIAGE OF LIQUIDS

Often when you leave for a trip you are forced to leave expensive perfumes, detergents for soap or other liquids on the ground. Checking the regulations on liquids in hand luggage will help you to prepare your luggage in the correct way, so that you don’t have unpleasant surprises at the check-in desk.

Liquids in hand luggage are allowed in small quantities. These liquids must be in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each (1/10 litre) or equivalent (e.g.: 100 grams). These containers must then be packed in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1 litre. It must be possible to close the bag with its contents. Each passenger (infants included) will be permitted to carry just one plastic bag of the above size.

Medicines and liquids prescribed for dietary purposes including baby foods to be used during the journey may be carried on board outside the bag without restrictions of volume. Medicine needed during the flight must be accompanied by a prescription.

Liquids include: water and other drinks, soups, syrups, perfumes, creams, lotions and oils, sprays, gels, ointments, make-up and eye mascara, contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foams and deodorants; any other substance with the same consistency.

It is possible to buy liquids such as perfumes or spirits on sale at stores located beyond the point where you show your boarding pass or on board aircraft of the European Union. If you are in transit at an EU airport, do not open the package before you have been screened at the last transit airport on arrival at destination. Always keep proof of purchase. All these liquid substances are to be considered in addition to those contained in the transparent plastic bag mentioned above.

It is possible to carry liquid containers in checked baggage as the new rules only affect hand luggage.
